Now a retired elementary teacher, I am also a genealogist, author, and speaker. I have volunteered at Detroit’s Woodmere Cemetery since 2003, assisting others who are researching their family trees by using information found in the cemetery records. My first project was to redo some of the old cemetery maps to make it easier to locate graves. After that was finished, I approached the owners, Midwest Memorial Group, to allow me to put the records online. They graciously agreed.
This website provides researchers with free online access to Woodmere’s records, blogs about genealogy, and has a list of Michigan resources that may benefit the researcher. I am a past vice-president/program chair of the Dearborn Genealogical Society, and I have done research for the PBS television show, the History Detectives. In 2009, I was the recipient of the Award of Merit presented by the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
As Woodmere’s historian, I conduct tours of the cemetery and give presentations about Woodmere and about cemetery research to genealogy societies, and church and civic groups. I have authored two books with Arcadia Publishing: “Detroit’s Woodmere Cemetery” and “Michigan Memorial Park.”
